Preturile alimentelor la nivel mondial au atins un nou record in luna decembrie, depasind nivelul inregistrat in 2008, cand fenomenul s-a soldat cu revolte populare violente in mai multe tari. Potrivit ultimului raport al Organizatiei pentru Alimentatie si Agricultura (FAO) din cadrul ONU, preturile la alimente au inregistrat in decembrie 2010 al saselea val de crestere, cauzat de scumpirea zaharului, cerealelor si oleaginoaselor.
Indicele lunar al FAO masoara variatiile de pret ale unui cos alimentar ce include cereale, oleaginoase, produse lactate, carne si zahar. Acesta a fost stabilit la 214,7 puncte luna trecuta, fata de 206 in luna noiembrie si peste precedentul record de 213,5 stabilit in iunie 2008.
Impactul catastrofelor naturale
Indicele pretului la zahar a urcat la 398,4 puncte in decembrie, fata de 373,4 puncte luna precedenta. Cel al cerealelor a ajuns la 237,6 puncte, cel mai inalt nivel de dupa august 2008, iar cel al oleaginoaselor, la 263 puncte, contra 243,3 in noiembrie.
Scumpirile spectaculoase pot fi puse in buna masura pe seama fenomenelor extreme produse cu o frecventa neobisnuita anul trecut. 2010 a fost a fost marcat de o seceta puternica in Rusia, fortand suspendarea exporturilor sale de cereale. Mai recent, inundatiile din Queensland, Australia, incep sa se resimta asupra preturilor la mai multe produse de export, ce risca sa afecteze in primul rand pietele asiatice (India, Bangladesh si Japonia). Canberra prevede deja o reducere cu 25% a preturilor la zahar in 2011.

In Romania, ultima statistica a preturilor la alimente emisa de Institutul National de Statistica dateaza din noiembrie 2010 (vezi tabel). Comparativ cu luna precedenta, preturile au crescut la carne si lapte. Prin comparatie insa cu decembrie 2009, preturile inregistreaza un nivel mai scazut cu 2-3 puncte la carne, lapte si zahar.
